I find the take-off in 1st in my MY11 T5 is sluggish, particularly if you are taking off uphill, and really sluggish with a light caravan in tow.
I had a lot of concern about the DSG box for a while and there was some comment about it here too. I think that there is a danger in having it serviced by your "local bloke" that as there is no dipstick or drain point for transmission fluid it might be assumed to be a "sealed for life" system. Life in this context should be taken to be 60Kk, this is the interval for transmission service when the pan is removed and I think there is a filter(s) to be changed. (someone might correct me on that if I am wrong)
Once rolling the DSG is fine, towing using cruise control not a problem.
    cheers

At least the filter is on the outside of the DSG this time not like the Tiptronic , but from other members reports you have to ask for it to be done at 60.000 as they will not do it as part of that service {That is in the service booklet }. Personally thats pretty stupid why put a filter there and not replace it as part of the service , we are told over and over to change engine filters when we do oil changes why not the filter in the auto ?? . Yes I will admit that engine oil will be more readily contaminated with blow by fumes etc , but even in a sealed enviroment there will and has to be some sort of degredation of the fluids properties . To this day I will uphold my belief that if the filter was changed by VW in our old one I would not be so critical of VW today for its eventual destruction when that filter became solidly blocked .

Sounds a bit too confident to be true, but then I'm an old sceptic.

Edit: looks like this is a chip mod. I invite anyone out there who has had this done to post here or PM me their experience of same.
Particularly with reference to any impact on warranty or dealership issues as a result.

Whilst about a Transporter I did a job for a fellow forum member who owned a Golf GTI last year , his was chipped and his dealer black flagged his car so he could not go to any VW dealer for warranty issues with the engine etc.

This is to comment on the topic of this forum, being T5 and DSG, in relation to the "lag" issue.
    My observations have been:

Case 1.) outside temp BELOW 33C and air con OFF: no lag at all.
Case 2.) outside temp BELOW 33C and air con ON: slight lag.
Case 3.) outside temp ABOVE 33C and air con OFF: slight lag.
Case 4.) outside temp ABOVE 33C and air con ON: longer lag, seems combined lag of (2) and (3).

I think this takes out the mystery from the lag question, as it seems to follow reliably the above rules and must be a software feature.
"33C" degrees is the approx. number, the switchover happens somewhere between 32C and 34C.
I also appreciate that in the hotter regions (e.g.Qld) it is almost always Case (4) condition thus the lag is present constantly.

    Hmmm....I disagree with you...Sorry.
I get lag, and I rarely have the air cond on.
The lag is more noticeable to me now, since I bought a Caddy TDI DSG and a new 103TDI Tiguan (which has the same DSG as the Transporter).

Ive got a manual T5 crewvan. I use it as a work vehicle, and with 2 young kids (still in child seats) I can comfortably pick the kids up from childcare after work. Its become our primary family vehicle, not just for tax reasons. The manual can be a pain in traffic, but overall its performance fully laden, is fantastic. The twin turbo 132Kw is excellent.
I've recently had the EGR valve replaced, and if you look at my recent post about an intermittent buzzing/ humming noise, the vacuum hoses are to be replaced.

I have it serviced at a VW dealership, and find that they do go in to bat for me on warranty issues.
In short, i'd buy another one, I'm happy with it.

IN2VW, Did you check for change in behaviour when the temperature gets to 34C, do you get more lag then?
Did you actually compare the amount of lag you get with air con on or off?

I don't see any meaningfull analysis from you at all.
Your lag in Tiguan could be attributed to a different engine or DSG software. This thread is about T5.

the introduction of lag above 34C is pronouced, like on/off switch in software, trying to preserve the DSG fluid from heating up further..

I am referring to the lag in my T5....not the Tiguan.
My T5 has more lag in cold weather than on warmer days. No I have not noticed any difference in lag when the air conditioner is on compared to when it is off.
Sorry for any meaningless analysis from me. Just passing comment that in my T5, the temperature has made no noticeable difference in the lag.
