My rear main seal was incorrectly installed on day 1. The seal was replaced and have not had a problem with it since.
......but it was not a 15 hour job to replace. It was done within a day.

Sounds like the story my local VW dealer spun when the water pump failed on our older T5 2.5 diesel the bill was $1600 and they told me that the engine would need to be removed to do the job I should have smelt a rat when they rang 4 pm same day and said it was ready .
Pretty much the second last time I used that dealer [last time was when they killed the auto]

    to answer some previous questions,
Tyres- i had changed at around 38000, they were clearly run down. The OEM Dunlop seem to have a pretty soft compound.
At the 35000km service the brakes looked work and rotors had a clear lip on the front. When i looked myself, before this most recent service, there was a 2mm lip on the front rotors and both front & rear pads looked pretty close to gone. I did have this verified by a mate whom I trust with cars.

Admittedly.. i'm a pretty aggressive driver, perhaps that coupled with a a heavy vehicle is yielding these results.

Although... Not sure how you guys drive. it's not like I'm doing doughnuts and starting a collection of speeding fines to frame on my wall!

I've got the van back. $1562 later. There were a couple of warranty recalls as well as the engine crank rear seal. There is a front brake wear light (not rear) that was not lit. I might have got another 1000 or so km, but not much more, the front rotors were obviously worn.
Rear rotors are ok, the pads were replaced.
While they had the van they also did a service. All in all I'm not dissatisfied with the work and reasons for it. I'mm happy to attach the invoice if anyone's interested. If i can work out how. If you know, do tell.

If anyone has a Crewvan, or a LWB twin turbo T5, the brake sizes for the larger 17' wheels are:

front rotors are 340mmX32mm and your rear rotors are 294mmX22mm.

Prices from GSL as per email section below:

By the look of your VIN, your T5 is actually a 2011 model, build Sep 2010. Neither here nor there once we have the VIN, but just FYI.

With regards to brakes our first recommendation for high end Euro vehicles is a Fremax Rotor/Remsa Pad combination. Fremax are a VERY high quality Brazilian made rotor, which is night and day better than the Chinese options out there (like RDA) but still very well priced, and what we supply for the majority of Euro vehicles where a slotted or performance specific rotor isn’t required. Remsa are a high end European made pad, and part of the TRW Group (who make a lot of the genuine parts anyway). All that said however, Fremax don’t yet make the front rotor, so we’d actually have to supply that in a Remsa! Obviously as good as the Fremax being European made like their pads, but the pricing is a bit more (and thus why we normally favour Fremax over them).

    Prices as follows:

    - Front Remsa Rotors $211.20 each
    - Rear Fremax Rotors $90.75 each
    - Front Remsa Pads $157.50 for the set
    - Rear Remsa Pads $120 for the set

If you order the whole lot, I’ll do it at a package price of $850 delivered.

Easiest way to order is credit card over the phone, 1300 884 836, or else swing me your details, delivery address (preferably a work or business address!!), contact number and I can fire you through an invoice with direct deposit details.
