    T5 captains chairs

Hey guys, I have had a look, but couldn't anything.

Is it legal to sit in a T5 captain's chair (middle row) facing rear-wards while in transit (driving)?

I am assuming that the seats and rails hold enough strength facing either way, but is it legal?

    Many thanks for your advice.

    Cheers,

You need to check your handbook. It depends on whether VW had the seats approved in that configuration.

I would guess yes for the Multivan as there are versions where the second row seats are fitted back to back with the driver's and front passenger seats. However that may be for other markets...

All seats fitted at factory have to comply with current ADR,s it would be wise to check with VWA or your handbook which should be able to tell you . As for legality if it has been complied with ADR,s then there is no reason you can,t use it reversed whilst driving . Naturally you would need to be able to convince the boys in blue if pulled over . We used to manufacture rear facing seats for maxi Taxis and the frame they were mounted to was quite a piece of engineering .

The answer to your question is the middle two seats can be fitted in reverse in your multivan legally.

If you fit child seats in the middle two then they have to be forward facing.

Welcome to the multivan club hope you sell the Passat soon.

last time I looked into it I came up with the same answer as Rob gave.

I think we have run child seats backwards before we knew, I'm guessing it's more to do with the child seat is tested rather than anything to do with VW seating arrangements.

Thanks guys. I had forgotten to RTFM

It is as I had thought - the multivan is able to carry people facing rearwards (in the middle row captains chairs) in transit

Now, if I can find that bit of legislation that supports (or does not preclude) this mode of travel, then it's all good.

Will let you know how I go...

By the way, the missus and the kids LOVE it! So I don't get to drive it that much
