I managed to get it for around $58K drive away after trading in the T4....dealer was happy and so was I... and the Veh quip seats are quick release, individual buckets with their own frame mounted seat belts & child seat anchor points so on the weekends it's a very big wagon...

ps. should add the full retail price of the total options list was $16K on top of base LWB/2.5L/auto price..

I have a 95 t5 multivan tdi auto with 90000klms. I have averaged 8.4l/100 since new.. On trips i can get as low as 7.3l/100.
AC costs around 0.5l/100 in my experience.
I can't understand how your economy can be so bad unless in traffic jam.
Towing a large fiberglass boat I get about 11l/100ks
The AS rating of 8.9 is very good indication of expected economy with mixed city and country.
    Regards bert.

The 2nd needs to be manually reset (1st one can reset by itself and I have to check the parameters for doing this) and it's showing an average of 9.8L/100km over 3500km. In this period I've actually done some heavy load work, eg 300km with 1000kg in the rear and towing 1200kg. It didn't even notice it. The gearbox itself is brilliant, in full auto mode it downshifts when slowing down providing some engine braking and is very smooth on the upshift while the tip-tronic manual mode is fun. At 100km/hr it sits on a little over 1900rpm in sixth not sure about how that compares to a manual T5. I guess the simple point I could make would be given a second buying decision what would I do...order another one as is without a thought. The manual will naturally be more economical however is CBD/suburban stop-start I thought the auto would be more relaxed and I wanted a more "cruisy" ride this time.. I fold the armrests down, turn up the mp3 radio, settle back and forget I'm driving a "van"..its that satisfying.
I need to correct my own post, @100km/hr my T5 sits at just over 1800rpm and not 1900 as I first thought and the avg fuel use is 9.7km/100km @38km/hr avg speed.

I assume you mean 2005 Multivan as the T5's didn't come out until late 2004.

I was expecting 8.9l/100km at worst as I was getting great fuel economy from the T4 TDI. My computer tells me it is getting about 10.9 but the fuel pump is telling me over 11, consistently since I got it. Most of the driving is around town but it doesn't seem to change much on the couple of long runs I have done.

As I said my Multivan has the diesel particulate filter, climate control, all the electronic gizmos under the sun and other strange things in the engine bay that I have never seen before. Does yours have the particulate filter, Bert? I notice that the specs in the manual show significantly higher fuel consumption with a particulate filter versus without.

Anyone else getting similar fuel consumption to me in the 128kW auto Multivan?

Yes Bobd your right my 128kw multivan is a 2005 model. And mine has all the electronic gizmos like your which make little difference to economy except for the climate control. All autralian multi's were the same spec. We don't use climate control unless in summer. Can't understand why you would use it otherwise. I also have a friend with a 3 month old multivan reporting the same economy as mine. The AS rating is easily achievable and a very conservative indication of economy.
An observation worth mentioning is when the vehicle is cold the economy is bad. If a large percentage of your trip is prior to the engine reaching temperature then that would impact severly on your economy. Also keep your foot light on the gas until the engine is at full temperature as you would be surprised how bad this can impact economy.
Maybe take it out on teh open road and test with warm engine to see if something is really wrong.

    Regards Bert

You raise a point that I only realised about 2 weeks into new ownership, I drive a lot further after an overnight stay/cold start before the engine is fully warmed compared to my previous T4 dual fuel van......it takes alot longer before full warm up.
