    T5 4motion 100,000km later.

The Transporter's T5 had its birthday yesterday. It's almost 8 years old and the odometer just turned to 100,000km.

... and to celebrate the occasion, I've installed the Viezu Blue Optimized tune and went for a short road test. The first impressions are great, it feels more responsive, driving up the steep hill feels easier and I almost can't see any soot from the tail pipe, even under hardest acceleration. Later, I will let you know how much better fuel economy I got.

...but that's of course, if I resist the temptation to switch it with the Performance Tune.

I have to resist that one since I'd like to know, how much fuel can one save, while driving mainly the short trips? So, stay tuned.

Just an update on the Blue Optimized tune and the fuel economy that one can get from it.
I do very short trips and my 4motion is loaded to the max. with the tools, oils and parts.

Well, the first 1/2 the tank I got straight 10L/100km (500km to the 1/2 on the fuel gauge); I enjoyed probably too much that low down torque and the slight power increase which feels great and it was kind of hard to resist.
Not driving to get the best possible fuel economy caused that I got 10L/100km which, is only 1/4L or so better than my normal winter fuel economy. Though the tank was filled up at the truck place with the hi-flow nozzle and I think that I would put more fuel in the tank at the place where I usually buy my fuel.

The second fill up and the half the tank later, I have to say I'm impressed, I've got 8.7L/100km. This time I was driving for the fuel economy, and I'm sure I could get even better on my second tank.

Also much less soot from the tail pipe, which means, cleaner van at the back.

So, this morning the performance tune went in and, all I can say is; Holy cow! Why didn't I remapped it long time ago?

The first gear that was always short and laggy has improved and there is such a nice continued power through the every gear. The engine is actually quitter, since it doesn't need to be revved up too high; it gains the speed really fast. I've just came from the trip to Willunga and it just cruised through the hills like nothing, despite the van is fully loaded. The ride is very relaxing.

It's like having a new van!

Thanks for this info Transporter. As discussed, I'm seeing Simon next week in Cairns to discuss either the Blue economy tune or perhapse the performance tune (after your comments!) on my 2007 128kw van. With the Performance mod, how has your fuel economy been? Obviously it depends on how ham fisted you are. I manage around low to mid 800kms on the high way with the Indian in the back etc. I wouldn't want to drop below the 800km mark. I'll get back to the list to let you know how I went.
Oh year, my machine is a 6 speed manual.

    Best wishes all.

Ken, I'm sure that Simon gives you the best choice to achieve the best fuel economy.
I put BlueOptimized on mine to start with. However, I drive mainly in the city/hills short trips traffic, so I'm not the best one to comment what your highway fuel economy would be. I think that I get about the same or better with the Performance tune. It's also important to note that my T5 is loaded to the max. with the tools, which is probably making the BlueOptimised tune to work very hard, but driving almost empty on highway? It may be very different and you could be better of with that BlueOptimized tune. If that's the fuel economy that you prefer, I would say try BlueOptimized first, since you drive mostly on the highways.

Regardless which of the 2 tunes you use, you should get better fuel economy.

I did the Touareg V6 TDI 3 weeks ago. I know it's a different engine but he went from 11L to 8-9L/100km in the city driving (to work and back, short trips too) , and that's with the Performance tune
