T5 2011 4 motion 6 speed manual gearbox oil change.

I am clocking up 105k. I am wondering if I can change my gearbox oil, will it smooth out my gear changes 1st and second? I also want to prolong the life of the box. I know they are sealed for life, what's involved and would I be wasting my time?
    Any tips? Thanks.

All you need is the 16mm spline bit and 70W75 gear oil, like Penrite, 2.7l of it.

Does the T5 need a special spline bit with a hole in the end to fit over a pin in the plug like my Mk5 Golf?
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

My local auto shop only had a 20 ltr drum of the stuff so I ordered 2.5 ltr. And a 1 ltr. I will be changing this on the weekend and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the advice on oils and tools needed.

Will I need a torque wrench and new gaskets for the bolts or should I be OK?

    Should be ok without.

The drain and filler plugs only hold the oil in, so they can be just firmly tightened by hand.

I got off work early today so decided to do the change, with the help from you guys it was a simple process. I just had to go to bunnings and get the bits I needed for the bolts. What I thought was funny was I only drained out 2.4 ltrs and 2.7 ltrs went in. We're did the 300 ml go? Can it evaporate somehow? Even with a sealed unit.

If the car's not level (front up on stands, for example), you might be able to sneak a bit more in.

Although, I did read somewhere, VW were under-filling things to save a bit of money. Obviously, underfilling to within an acceptable level of course.

The 2.7L is right oil refill capacity. The oil in gearbox is hard to evaporate. The gearbox is not an airtight, there is went on the top.

After driving around for most of the week, I can say for certain that my gear changes are a lot smoother, just like when I brought the thing. Changing my oil was really worth it. I would recommend most pple to give it a go. It was a very simple process.
