I'm picking up a 2010 Caravelle 2.0TDI on Thursday, also interested in an integrated system. It sounds like it is pretty straightforward to add the RNS510 if I can find one, but how about adding bluetooth and parking camera or sensors? I suspect I need a professional to help with the install...suggestions for Sydney?

Is there any problem with mine being T5.1 instead of 5.2?
Post a picture of your dash and I will recommend which radio/sat nav to go for. I would not recommend most of the cheap Chinese stuff. If you dont want OEM, Sandy (DKN) has an option of any possible dash config from the ANS range. Can buy this outside of a group buy and it has local support and lifetime firmware and map (iGo) upgrades.

Sharkie, My image in the post above has been restored, thanks for the help! I asked Sandy about the ANS range and he said they might be slow and that AM could have problems...so I'm not that keen on them unless I know it will work, as I listen to ABC AM on the way to work. If I knew the DNS was coming out soonish I'd probably just settle on that, but it seems uncertain. My minimum requirements are bluetooth and camera, but I'd like integration with MFD if I can and if the navi is decent I'll get rid of the old TomTom as well. I'm using an android phone so iphone integration is not that important.

Sunny, I have to agree that it doesn't make much sense. If I buy the stock VW option it's $3k and doesn't even include bluetooth or camera for that price. Was quoted $2300 for Zenec with camera installed, but again, heaps of terrible reviews, AM problems, etc. My view of the Chinese units is that even if bluetooth works it's about the same price as having a parrot fitted.

What T5 do you have? You have the "newer" RCD210 but the colouring of the surrounds suggest a Transporter, correct? Given that you don't have factory BT, I'd suggest considering the ANS510 or 810, the equivalent DNS models (when they come out) BUT also an OEM RNS510. Off Ebay for about $900 incl shipping and for BT an OEM kit off Ebay.

BTW, I have a Parrot kit with VW2Go integration model with cables for either RCD510/RNS510 or RCD210/RCD310 that I used in my Tiguan. Its basic BT with no screen integration but it works. Yours for $50 if you want it.

Sharkie, it's an 02/2010 Caravelle if that makes it clearer. Have sent you a PM about the Parrot. I'm thinking that if I want the full unit the OEM is starting to sound better for my needs, but it's also sounding like $1500 installed with camera...so not sure anymore if I want to spend that much.

Sunny, FM announcers annoy the crap out of me but I like my dose of news in the morning. Thanks for the heads up, that solves the Chinese issue for me.

    Hi Sharkie

just ordered a comfortline and want to fit a better radio and nav. do you still recommend the rns510 or are there other options that have come out since you did your conversion

also, I am a bit worried about damaging something when pulling out the covers and radio surrounds any special tools or should I just get it professionally installed?

    thanks

Hey mate, I'd still recomend the RNS510 above anything else. RNS510's are also constantly being upgraded, so a late model (H or P) is the way to go. Cheaply available on eBay from Europe. I bought 1 last week for the Amarok, was delivered in less than a week!

Fitting is really simple, all up 6 screws if I remember correctly. The rest is plug and play. Lots of RNS510 fitment guides on youtube, have a look and save your self $150 installation fee.

    Thanks Sharkie

I bought a set of removal tools from ebay for $3! so will. do I need to specify that I need Aussie maps if I buy from a European seller? also do you have any idea about rear cameras? I watched a clip on youtube and the wiring coonersn me, do you know if the wiring is already there or do I have to pull the wire from the back to the radio?

thanks for advice mate, I am probably going to need more and appreciate you time

Need an RCD 310 or RCD 510 Call me as I have discovered a secret stash at a dealers pre-delivery section. They dont know what to do with them. I saw 10 RCD 310 (probably for free) and 4 RCD 510 sitting around and was told there are more. Jan @ Motexion 0433 97 55 44

    Hi all

i just fitted the rns 510 into the new multivan and it turned on, but when i go to the nav options there are no maps, i am thinking that it is because of the gps antenna - which is magnetic - is mounted down low under the unit - the only metal in the vicinity i could find - so may not be able to get signal?

my question is where have people mounted the GPS Antenna when they have upgraded to the rns 510?

Also, two of the 6 screws seem to be very hard to screw back - i stopped so as not to damage the plastic - any tips?

    Thanks guys

    Arif
