my question is where have people mounted the GPS Antenna when they have upgraded to the rns 510?

Also, two of the 6 screws seem to be very hard to screw back - i stopped so as not to damage the plastic - any tips?

    Thanks guys

All the screws should go in easily. I'd pull them all out again and start again ensuring all bits are alligned properly.

The GPS antenna must be as close to the top as possible. Down low will see it not finding any satelites. I use velcro stickers these days and attach to the bottom of the top tray. When you have it all in, park on your driveway with a clear sky above you and give it a few minutes to find the satelites. It needs at least 4 to work properly and 6-7 out of 9 is normal.

First off I'd recommend leaving the top tray off and positioning the antenna on top of the dash. Once its found a few satelites and brought up the map then move to just below the tray.

Having spent so much on other options on our 2011 T5 we settled for the bog-basic radio (RNS 210?).
All I want is to retro fit a USB port, hopefully in some not-too-untidy looking place.
Can anyone out there point me in the right direction?
Might it involve resetting any codes? If so, where the hell does one find said codes.
Too much technology in new vehicles for this old fart, I can tell you!

There is VW Media Interface (MDI) where you can fit the USB, ipod adapter. You don't need radio PIN to fit it, if that's what you ask.
Other than that, if you DIY I'd coded it for you for free, if you come to me.

Thanks, Miro ... what does the finished installation look like - does it utilise any of the available slots (or whatever they're supposed to be called) in the dash?

The MDI box is hidden and the cable for the USB drive or iPod is in the glovebox.

    Hello guys,

Having just ordered a new comfortline I have begun searching reverse camera options as I could not see the value in 4k for the option from factory. So far my research tells me that I should be ordering either:
    RNS510 from ebay $900 ish
    RCD510 from ebay $300 ish

    and:
Genuine VW reverse camera from ebay $260 ish.

Sounds like fitting is simple plug and play with only basic hand tools required.

Can anyone who has retrofitted a reverse camera to their multivan please advise what they ordered, how well it works and where they purchased from. Im not fussed on the sat nav so Im leaning towards the RCD.
Also I just assumed they multi would come with phone blue tooth controls on the steering wheel, can anyone confirm before I check with the dealer. If so I would also want the new head unit to be compatible with these controls.

    cheers and thanks in advance,

I'd always recommend the RNS510 above the RCD510.

The RNS510 has the SatNav (which I actually quite like) which fully integrates to the MFD (very handy to provide route instructions), a 30GB (or 40GB depending on model) harddrive to store music on (lots and lots of CDs worth) and the ability to play DVDs.

Also, a RCD510 that has the yellow plug for the RVC is more expensive than the "cheaper" non RVC versions. Budget about $350 for it.

RVC camera bit of a pain to fit. For $270 I'd recommend the genuine unit, however can get a "guaranteed to work" aftermarket unit here : RGB Parking Camera FOR RNS315 RNS510 810 RCD510 Rear View Reverse Backup Camera | eBay

I believe the latest Multivans come with BT and MF steering wheels as standard, but this would best be checked with the dealer as it will be a pain to retrofit (do-able though).

Nowhere, it got deleted. It was at least a second time I've cleaned up this thread. The first time I've moved the off topic posts to a new thread. It's somewhere in the audio section, if you find it, I'd moved the deleted chat in there.

This is sticky thread and I intend to keep it clean. Please, don't post the Chinese aftermarket radio and other unrelated info in this thread. People who want the info on RNS units aren't interested in it.

    Sorry for any inconvenience.

You are more than welcome to start your own thread about the Chinese units.
