    T5.2 Auto Headlights Retro Fit?

I've been thinking about looking into this for a while and am finally starting the hunt now. Is it possible to install auto headlights with the stock T5.2 head lights? (non xenon)??

Given the van already has auto wipers... is the rain sensor also a light sensor? Can you get away with just a euro switch and some coding?

(On a side note, since DRL's in my Cabriolet is just the stock bulbs I wonder if you can get DRL's running in the same fashion)

Aaron, same sensor for auto wipers and auto lights.

I don't believe you could have 1 or the other, as they only come in a single package "Light and Sight" from the factory .... Unless you have an anomaly build

so if you are confident you have the sensor and auto wipers, then I suspect a switch with "auto" and some vcds coding may be all that is required. Given that the switch is $40 off orientalparts, i would definitely try it if I was you.

Edit: btw, I'm looking at getting an auto switch from them already, the 1 with the chrome bits, for the Rok, so you're welcome to try mine (non chrome) if you want (when I get it)

Definitely have auto wipers and if it's all in one I should be good.

If you're going to have a spare auto switch just sitting there I might just buy your old off you rather than import another one. I'll shoot you a PM

edit: I just had the brilliant idea to test out the one from the Cab... but it seems it's a completely different part to what is in the Multivan.

What's the part No you have now? (or have ordered?)

I'd suggest you contact VW Spares and get the part number for a T5GP with auto lights.

Use this VIN if you need a suitable vin .... VW2ZZZ7H2BH044697

Thanks for that, that's the same part as in my Cabriolet (well similar, mine has both front and rear fogs which should make it a BM or REH part (I'd have to double check which it is... it's way too late for me to think too much about it right now).

My best guess is that "multiple switch" is a manual switch where "combi-switch" is the auto one.

Your part number 1K0 941 431 BK is combi-switch for automatic driving light, side lights and driving lights, rear fog light and coming home"

    So the current part is:
6Q0 941 531 M - multiple switch for slide lights, headlights and rear fog light.

    The options for replacement are:

6Q0 941 531 S - combi-switch for side lights and driving lights, rear fog light and coming home.
    (most likely)

    or

6Q0 941 531 AA - combi-switch for day driving light, side lights and headlights and fog lights

So depending on how the model handles DRL's it looks like I would get a choice of either DRL support OR retaining the read fog, but not both as there doesn't appear to be a part listed in ETKA with both options... although to be fair that same part appears to have been used in it's various forms in the Polo, Passat, Transporter and various Audi models too...

I suppose I need to hunt one down or find someone else locally with one I can borrow to test what works and what doesn't.

edit: digging a little deeper and I found this:
    VW Amarok 2H Lichtschalter mit Nebelscheinwerfer-Funktion 6Q0941531S | eBay

Seems that S model doesn't seem to have the "auto" function I expect...

I wonder if I can find one in a dealership I could commandeer for a little while

If anyone with a Mutlvan/Transporter/Caravelle has auto headlights and wants to help out, pop your switch out and snap a photo or write down the part number for me

It's very easy to remove the switch, it's been the same for years, turn to off, push in, turn... pull out.

Here's a video to show you how:

Hit up a VW spares dept with the VIN I gave above. It was my 2011 Multivan which had factory fitted front fogs, DRL and auto headlights.

The switch in it had auto and front and rear fog settings.

Then use the part number they give you to do the necessary searches

I'll see what I can dig up.

Question for your DRL's... were they a dedicated LED or were they simply the high beam at 40% like my Cab?

hello, can't help you with the auto lights. Through the years I've pulled many headlight switches out and I have not seen one with the big plug like the one in my T5.2 since the days of the mk4 Golf and 9N Polo.
I also notice the my T5.2 does not have bulb-out detection and does not shut down any lighting circuits when there's a fault, like all post mk5 cars do. Like Sharkie said auto wipers and lights should come together. Good luck with that one!

on the DRLs, if yours is a 2010 like mine, you'd notice it doesn't have the fuses in the fuse box for DRLs. On the BCM there were 4 wires removed and taped up- I have yet to refer these to the wiring diagram, when I get some free time I may see which pin from the BCM controls the DRL and see if they'd give me 12+ with ignition and off with lights on. I know the headlight does have wiring for the DRL that run back to somewhere but I haven't had time to look further into it. I'm half-expecting 4 wires removed and taped up behind the fuse box as well

Alternatively I can also buy a cheapie DRL driver on ebay and run a relay off that to feed the stock DRLs... but not enough time to start fiddling! Good luck!

I've seen the bulb out warning light in my T5.2, although it was for an attached trailer, never had a bulb out otherwise. Surely if it does it for the trailer it also does it for the other bulbs?
