    T5.1 Steering replacement

Hi chaps, I have a couple of questions that I hope that you could shed a bit of light on.

I have a t5.1 180 swb that has a RNS 510 fitted as well as the mfd display but don’t currently have a MF wheel. I have just purchased a MK6 golf mf wheel of eBay and was wondering if the replacement wheel would be a simple plug and play job or would there need to be any wiring mods and recoding via vag com?

My other question is that the mk 6 golf steering wheel doesn’t come with an air bag. Would my transporter bag fit or would I have to source an actual golf air bag?

Cheers for any help on the topic guy’s.

The only small info I can offer is check the airbag plug is the same as there are variations between different models and years etc .

I thought the airbag on a Golf is a different shape than the Transporter airbag.
    Here are some pics:
My stock wheel on my T5.1 when I bought it.

Replacement Golf wheel on the van now

In my case, it was plug'n'play. The paddle shift worked without any coding. Others were not so lucky. They required programming and control modules.

    Very nice indeed mate!

The wheel that I purchased is the standard golf wheel with mf controlls and my Transporter wheel is the basic three spoke wheel.

Whats the chance of vcds printout of what modules you have on your bus, i tried doing it and nothing worked, i think there is three diferent modules (low, mid, high) but not sure which one i have, i suspect you have the high for everything to plug and play.

If you are talking about a T5.1, I don't think the problem of the MF wheel not working has anything to do with Modules. It all runs through the 09 Central Electric Module, you do need to code for the MF wheel but from my experience the only thing lacking in a van without MF wheel or dash, is the wiring in the loom.
It is not complicated to add the wiring but you do want someone who knows what they are doing to do the addition of the wires to the loom.

I have the MF stereo controls and paddle shifts working on my van with little more that a new airbag harness and a few wires added to the loom. If I want a MF dash, I need to install one and and add a few more wires.

Do you know what the wires are? Do you have a diagram or instructions?

Sorry, I had someone else do it for me but I know it was 2 wires from the back of the wiring connector coming from the split ring (the bit behind the steering wheel where the airbag harness plugs in) to a couple of other points.
