    T5 1.9 TDI Oil change

    G'day,

my girl is in dire need of an oil change, are there any major tricks? I was going to call Jmac but money is super tight right now.....

Any recommended parts suppliers in Brisbane? I used to use Import Advantage on the north side back when I was a bimmer nut. Oil recommendations welcome too.

    Cheers,

    Sherwy.

    Hi mate,
Just get 5L of PENRITE Enviro5W30 from Repco around $75 and genuine oil filter from the VW dealer (most likely cheapest and best). It is relatively easy if you've done it before. You will need 32mm socket to undo oil filter from the top. However if you've never chances oil in a car, I suggest you save a bit and let the professional to do it.

Roger that, thanks Transporter! Oil filter is a paper cartridge type right? As in not a spin off can type? Got to admit I haven't even looked for it!

    Yep, paper cartridge.
And one more about oil, there is also Shell Helix UltraExtra 5W30 at Repco, I saw it today retail $85/5L

Thanks for your help Transporter much appreciated. All went well, didn't spill a drop until I went to drive away for a lap of the block. I forgot to remove the oil catching tray and drove right over the top of it! Needless to say it looks a bit like the Exxon Valdez crashed into my front yard!!! Mostley cleaned up now except for a couple of kilos of kitty litter scattered around.

    Good times!

    Cheers,

    Sherwy.

It does happen to pro's as well. It's called a learning experience.

FYI the filter was $19 from Austral VW and the Penrite was $87.99 from Repco Wynnum. I put the entire 5 l in and the level is just below mid stick... I might buy another 5L....

Yeah, sump capacity of 1.9TDI in T5 is 5.5L approx.

Penrite Enviro+5W30 is also available in 1L bottles, however it will be more expensive per L than buying it in 5L container, so if you buy another 5L you have plenty of oil for top up.

In that case you can try ELF oil, they have Solaris LLX 5W30 that is VW504/507 approved. I bought 208L drum from them, now their rep told me that they're selling in 20L too.
