    t4 Tranporter Transformer

    G'day.
Scored a '98 T4 & have some wicked ideas for her to become a camper.
Have rebuilt the head, brake calipers & rotors.
She's the 1.9tdi model with custom interior (so a sticker says).
Once I work out how to post some pics, I will.
I'm really excited about this project & have a thousand questions.
    Thanks all

First question is.... would it have a vin plate somewhere? There's quite a few stickers with vin number, but no actual plate.
I got a roadworthy inspection and was knocked back because of this.
Has anyone had a similar problem to this?
    Cheers

These are the stickers I can find, which aren't good enough for Qld Transport Department.
Is there a hiding spot VW liked to put ID plates?
Or can anyone tell me where I can go from here please?
    Cheers

Has this van been registered in Aust. before? Do you have the original owners handbook? If yes, this may give a clue to where it was originally sold. You state that the engine is a TDI. Is that a typo.? as this engine was not an original offering for a '98 T4. The only TDIs were the 2.5 5 cyl. engines although many 1.9 TDIs have been retrofitted.
I just looked at one of the pics. show 1.9TD. which could be an original engine.
The compliance plate on my '01 model is fixed to the drivers side door pillar.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

I have a 96 2L petrol T4 and my compliance plate is also on the driver's door pillar, just below the tyre pressure placard.

By the way, welcome to the forum and good luck with the project ... sounds like fun!

By the look of it I would imagine the van either came from England or New Zealand or slim chance South Africa as they are RHD vehicles like ours , on that yellow stickers it there any country or state Logo as part of the sticker is obscured . Normally if it was imported to Australia there would be something to say it complies with Australian ADR regs . Have you approached a local authorised Qld Inspection business as there are lots of places who would have the ability to certify the van for Qld Transport . Qld Transport can be a bit hard to deal with as not all of their offices would have fully trained personell who would know what top look for {trust me I have dealt with them for over 20 years when I had my old business doing inspections and modifications }. I would suggest you get in touch with your local transport office as they would have a list of inspection centres and also qualified automotive engineers who can help check it for you.

    What's going on these days?
QLD used to be home of the crapboxes!
Anything could get registered up there.

    (welcome aboard t4camping)

edit - that must of been one of the last ones ever built!
