    T4 tailgate seal

Hi all took sons van through car wash today {lazy bugger never washes it himself} any way noticed water coming in at bottom of tail gate under pressure , my question other than VW ,s ridiculous spare parts price does any one know of an overseas supplier who have these seals at a more realistic price ?? .Now before any one jumps on me for not washing the van at home {yes I can be lazy too} We have a total of 3 vans in our family and by the time I have washed the other 2 I have lost the desire so car wash it was . Howard
[PS yes I have adjusted the latch I think someone before us had replaced it with an aftermarket one it doesn,t look as big as it should .

Is there no breakers near you?

There is a place 10 mins down the road from me in Adelaide if you are interested in a second hand one?

Dont know of any companies in Europe that sell a T$ or T5 rubber seals yet.

I might be wrong but I will ask my friends back in the UK.

Thanks for that Rob trouble with these seals is that as they get older the metal spine inside the seal goes rusty and looses it grip plus as these vans are used primarily for commercial use they get absolutley wrecked at the bottom I would rather new to keep out water and fumes .Howard

    Hi Sunny,
Might be worth looking at Clarke Rubber (or similar) for a close generic profile. I found some for my old Porsche 924 that worked well. Hate to think of trying to get original for that.

Thanks Brian but the trouble is that the generic ones from Clark etc are designed for car boots and are smaller in profile which someone had fitted before we bought this van . Howard

Thanks Seano most of these guys have the sedan style seals a fraction too small and wrong density , Just campers have the correct one as its an OE part according to them I am waiting to hear back from them as its not stocked locally , VW want $240 and a six week wait from Germany so I will keep hunting around .Howard

Sunny do you have the part number from VW?
If so I will see if I can get one in the UK and get a Pom to bring it over so you dont pay the shipping round the world just across OZ.
It might take a few weeks but could save you big bucks.
I take it its a single back door not two rear door model you have?

Hi Rob thanks for the offer I have put in a request from a couple of location I found one US site with seal for $68 plus freight but I will wait until they send freight cost before I make a move . I should kmow in 24 hrs as far as I can tell the part no is 721827705B The seal for the tailgate is the same for the barn doors 1996 T4,s Thanks again Howard PS the US seem to best on pricing as I was checking some sunroof parts for a customer of mine today and a part here from BMW was $94 in the US same part $18.95 just don,t make sense eh.
