T4 stuck in 3rd or 4th, clutch is ok !!

1997 Transporter T4 2.0 5spd manual petrol, stuck in 3rd or 4th, clutch is ok, But when i drive it i can have the clutch out and can select most gears, as if the linkage is not connected!!!, I had a look underneath and sprayed some lubricant on the linkages, it freed up a lot better, but if i pull up to a stop and have it in neutral it will stall when i let the clutch out!! does anyone have a solution or have heard of anything the same with the T4?? also, does the T4 have a clutch fluid reservoir? if so, how can i check that?? To get it going i have to rev the hell out of it to get it rolling....but it will not change gear ?? hope someone can help me here.... cheers, Dazz

Hi Dazz, I had a similar problem where I couldn't engage 1st, 2nd or reverse and was stuck at the bottom of a steep driveway so no way out! I had the car towed to my mechanic where he replaced the gearshift bush to the gearbox end of shift link. Cost $95 for parts and labour.

If you repost this in the 'Transporter, Multivan, Caravelle, Kombi' section of the forum under 'VW Vans and People Movers' I'm sure that you will get a greater response.
