    t4 power steering pump

It looks like my son's 2.5 petrol T4 has a crook power steer pump, as it's making a horrible noise and the steering is very heavy. I'm wondering if the pumps are generic across the T4 range?
Also, does anyone in the Brisbane area happen to have a spare, the people wrecking T4's are proving difficult to reach!

Unlikely to be generic across engines...it's a flaming VW!!

Can't help with wreckers but I'd imagine a non genuine would be available for most suppliers.

    Try Brookvale Spares in Sydney.

They wreck these things all the time.

Does it have the right oil in it, even?

well, since i posted earlier, it apparently has now also sprung a leak as well. i can't look at the car for a few days, but apparently it's not coming from the pump itself, but seems to be closer the rack. the fluid level was ok earlier before the leak, as for type of oil, can't say!

Rack seals are common on these.

Assuming it's not a Syncro, the comes out fairly easy on these, and they are rebuildable.

Awesome, thanks for the info, and yes, it's non synchro. Will possibly still need a pump, it has always been noisy since he bought it, although, an oil flush wouldn't hurt just in case it's full of the wrong oil!

    T4 steering rack

My son's T4 lost all his steering fluid via a split driver side boot. The boot replacement looks straight forward, but i'm curious that it is full of fluid. Is there a seal that has let go in the end of the rack, if so, can it be replaced easily?

Yeah, if the boot is full of fluid the seal has failed on the rack shaft.

I'll pull the racks out, but I sublet the rebuilds to a place in Sydney. It's around $400 to do.
