Although service at VW concurs with Scott. An intermitant fault may be something else like the windings in the dizzy. I'll just wait and see. Meanwhile I'll pick up a second hand distributor just in case...I aint payin' $850 for a new VW one no way.

Don, Glad it's well on the way to being sorted. I suppose the windings in the Dissy is a possiblity also.
