is there a specific type of oil to use, and does anyone know roughly how much is needed for a full replacement?

    Needs to be G002000-spec.

Do not put ATF in it.

Around 1L needed. You can get Penrite LDAS or LHM Plus oil, check number on P/S reservoir for which to use.

The early T4s used a different oil to the later ones. My '01 has a green lid whereas the early lids were a shade of red [from memory].
The oil I bought for mine is G 004 000 M2 & I just noticed "useable until see above" The date has disappeared but obviously has a limited life.
I wouldn't bother trying to find a cheaper oil than genuine, from memory it wasn't too expensive.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

The oil spec is usually on the reservoir.

Genuine is about $25 for the litre bottle.

From memory, G004000 (green) supercedes G002000 (yellow) that was used in the earlier models.

ok, thanks for the replies. the car has a green cap(96) on the reservoir, but i have just installed a second hand rack, which could be from any year. So do i take the punt and just stick with the green grade oil?
