So, one night coming home after a longish drive, I pulled into the drive way, went to put it in 1st, and the gear shifter lost all footing it once had.

I could shake it around like a sack of bones, it shifts into 4th and 3rd gear but nothing else, I can't get it into reverse either, it does push down but it goes into 1st when you try to put it into reverse.

I've tried diagnosing it myself but I can't really see what the problem is. I'm thinking it's the smallish rod that would seem to prevent the sideways movement that it is suffering, but some more advice would be helpful
