You were pretty close to empty - capacity is 80L.

80 l "official". 95 l are possible. The "record of filling it up" is at 98 l here in germany... 30 minutes and a shaking hand involved.

Haha I was cutting it fine then! I assumed it was 80lt.
    Thanks for that,

Yeah, there's always a bit more you can squeeze in under certain circumstances. My understanding of the 'official' capacities for vehicle fuel tanks is that the stated amount is the 'useable' quantity. Whether this includes anything sitting in areas below the pick-up is a matter of conjecture but I don't think it would include the filler tube - which of course you can top all the way up but isn't advised.

But why 30 minutes and a shaking hand?

I think he's referring to the often slow fill speed on some diesel pumps, as well as having to hold the pump trigger for that much time causing your hand to cramp up

Can't say I've encountered a slow diesel pump yet but I've been spat back at a time or two by high flow truck pumps!

One thing that interests me is fuel capacity differences between warm and cold climates due to expansion and contraction of the fluid. I know in Canada many gas stations have heaters in the storage tanks so they don't give you more fuel than you've paid for.

But as far as I know the fuel companies have never installed coolers in warm countries to ensure they don't sell you less...
