    T6 TDI or TSI .

    Hi All,

after 13 years of owning a T4 TDI I'm finally considering buying a new transporter.
As much as i swore I'd never buy another Volkswagen after having to get the torque converter fixed when it had done less than 80k($2500) and then spending another $8000 on the car when the cam belt can off at around 160k I test drove the nwe T6 and was very impressed.
What I noticed the most was the power of the twin turbo and just all the extra features that I missed out on in the T4.

The reason I'm considering The TSI is because I'm just a bit sick of the noisy diesel engine and would plan to do some longer trips with the van and would also be towing a boat.

My mate who works for VW in Sydney has told me the TSI IS available on a special order basis but will confirm this with me tomorrow as I've been told by Melbourne dealers that these cars are not available in Australia.

Apart from the fact that the 150KW petrol motor will use more fuel and will probably not last quite as long as a diesel motor just wondering what other factors I should consider before making a decision.

I work as a chippy so the van gets daily use and is loaded up with tools.
I dont travel more than about 40 kilometers a day and average about 15k a year.

Looking at ordering the LWB 4 motion auto model as will be towing a boat that weighs about 2000k.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Thomas.

Considering it's not listed on VW's website or their Transporter brochure are you sure it's even available locally. Tell you what, if it is I'm calling VW as soon as you confirm because I was told I cannot get a T6 Crewvan in tdi400 or with 4motion.

So stupid pf VW not being able to order a Crew Van in TDI with 4motion. I had to order a Transporter and add stupidly packaged option. I can only hope that one day VW learn how to focus on their consumers needs.

I think it was an option in the T5GP but then they dropped the TDi400 for the previous model. While back in T5 days you could buy the most powerful engine in a Crewvan but not with wing doors and later that changed and they added wing doors. So each time options were available I wasn't in the market and when I am the options are not available. And you head off to volkswagen.co.uk and discover All is available.

It burns me that I'm willing to spend upto $70K but it won't be a full factory fitted van. And there is no LWB Vito 119 Crew Cab either or 4x4.

In the T5, the TSI was by far the better drive. And I drove all of them (TDI340/TDI400/TSI350).

I'd buy a T6 TSI over any of the others, doubt you will be able to get 1 though. Wait till 2018 though and I might be able to help you out Possibly even get it to you in a manual !!!

Maybe (ha!) VW Australia will have a change of heart when people like me walk away from the T6 because of their predatory product marketing policy. For a Multivan driver like me, there wasn't ever any logical reason to pay another 20k for leather seats & outdated GPS on the Hiline. Now that they've linked 4motion (I miskeyed & accurately typed $motion initially) to premium cost, there's no cure for the perennial issue of tyre chirp taking off from a badly cambered but in no way steep hill start (RH straight through lane at the Indooroopilly pub lights is an example). As I said earlier, the rear drive Merc Valente is looking nearer the mark the more reports come through.

Did you test drive the latest Vito or Valente?
I had it for a day and didn't like it at all.

Well unfortunately the T6 Transporter TSI is not available in Australia but for anyone wanting a Multivan these can definitely be ordered through Volkswagen Australia in the petrol version even though they do not appear on the current brochure.
Think I'll just have to wait till 2018 and consider importing a TSI Transporter myself.

Talk to me early 2018/late 2017 and I might be able to assist with that. At present the plan is to set up an agency arrangement whereby we can help you with the importation of pretty much any vehicle from the UK or Japan. Even offer assistance in obtaining insurance, finance and warranty locally to get it done. Will be pretty much a painless process for you .....

You won't really be saving any money on something like a T6 but will be able to get what you want exactly. Savings (over comparable Oz models) will mostly be had on high end vehicles only.
