Whilst not a T4 my T5 had problems with acceleration and a rattling exhaust , went to an unnamed exhaust shop and it was promptly fixed . Seems there is more than one use for a steel pipe when the cat is removed from the car and then refitted with a miraculous improvement in power and economy .
There was a mob in Albury doing the rebuilds on T4 autos for VW when NSW Ambos were blowing them up every week.
The issue with the T4 TDI, and V6, autos was it was on the limit for the torque of those engines and wasn't capable of handleing the weight of a T4 when it's near, or over, it's GVM/GCM. Fwiw, the ambos were right on the GVM with some actually over weight, before you put anyone in. I'm pretty sure campers are in the same boat as well.
