To be quite honest I would suggest that you stick with original parts for the water pump cam belt etc as they are not that much more expensive than what you would get overseas or as non original .
I've just purchased a 2.5 petrol powered T4 and need to source some parts. I can get the Sachs HD dampers from the UK for a good price, but I'll need a cambelt, tensioner and water pump. Sump gasket, syncro rear universal boots and probably a few other things.
Who in melbourne can supply such things?

surely not from VW themselves?!
To be honest the VW parts for the T4,s are pretty good price , there may be some other non original parts available but for a Cam belt I would not take the chance the tensioner and pump are not that expensive from VW as well .
Racemag, try Volkshome in Thomastown
Speak with John, he's a VW nut!

Interesting to see what or if any damage done , as amatter of interest we have acomplete T4 2.5 petrol engine under a tarp at the side of our driveway it was a failed attempt when I was doing the transplant diesel to petrol in my sons van . I bought a whole van from NSW it was all but bare except it still had the engine -gearbox in place but not much else , turned out I could not source the electric components that were needed so I gave up and bought a whole running van off Ebay and swapped out the whole kit and kaboodle . Refitted the old diesel into the ebay van tidied it up and actually sold it back on ebay for 3 grand more than it cost !!!
yes I have read some of your reports on this. I need to get mine running asap to use it for some family projects. I have considered a small turbo and dedicated lpg fitting to get another 25kw out of it, but do you think the gearboxes strong enough?
I would not be sure about the LPG as from personal experience the power loss would have to be offset by the turbo so it might be pocket pain for no power gain . The gearboxes in our T4,s were all spot on for reliability but I am sure some of the mechanics on the forum could give you a more accurate report .You say the belt may have jumped off the pump did the pump sieze up or is this just a guess ? or what has actually happened to the engine at this point in time .
I will be able to answer that accurately in a day or so. At the moment what I know is that the engine stopped working and there was a lot of coolant leaking from the car. Which sounds like the waterpump cam apart and the belt was lost. If it was just the pump, then it would have kept running.
