T4 2.5 petrol engine oil light issue .

Strange one today my sons1997 T4 which has not been started for around 4 weeks started up today and now I have an oil light flashing steadily , the oil level is perfect so not sure what's going on . It was fine last time I started it as it's readied for selling and I have been taking it for a drive every few weeks to keep the battery topped up . I disconnected the battery just in case of a fault but it's still doing it any advice please . Howard

I had an oil sensor fail on an '01 T4 - the evidence was the low pressure warning light coming on continuously after a moderate run, but good oil level and obvious circulation under the breather cap.

On very close inspection there was a pinprick of oil around the electrical connector to the pressure sensor above the oil filter. The diaphragm underneath must have punctured. Simple to replace. Earlier models have two oil sensors - a second at the RHS of the head. There's a bit more diagnosis involved in that case.

Spoke too soon after pulling off the terminals and refitting , the oil light stopped flashing when the van was then started . I then turned the engine off restarted it again and the bugger came back on flashing again Grrr

Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

Thanks jets I will do some testing , seems strange that it happened after along period with a flat battery after roll starting the light came on . Maybe a power surge has screwed something up . Thanks for the post I will be checking .

Just had the flashing oil light and 'tacho going beserk' (jerking from 0 to 30+ continuously on the tacho) on my '96 2.4l Diesel Transporter. Checked the oil & it was fine - so called the NRMA but their diagnostic tool didn't suit my older VW, so was towed to Newcastle VW - ended up being a loose pin in the oil pressure sensor & cost $140 to remedy ..... chances are I could have continued driving but i didn't want to chance major engine damage, in case there WAS an oil problem! Googling when I finally got home, it became apparent that it is a common occurrence. This is the first time that the oil light has ever come on in 15 years+ of ownership! So glad I got it checked out by the Pros, not being mechanically minded myself!

Thanks for that , I think I have narrowed it down to a loose connection as when the engine is running , I can thump the fuse box cover and the RPM counter comes to life momentarily . Looks like easter will be the time to do some checks , now I if could only sort out the Turbo problem with our T5 and I would be happy .
