    Storage ideas please T5

Hi fellas, I'm looking for storage ideas for CD's, GPS, odds and ends, junk etc within arms reach of the driver seat. My toyota Landcruiser has a huge storage compartment between the drivers and passenger seat that holds all my........junk

Maybe just a plastic tool box sat on the floor between the seats may be the best option.

    Any suggestions?

That does look like a good solution but $415..... ouch. Plus at that height it would be hard to step over. I'm leaning towards the plastic tool box.

I have been doing some ebay searching, I will go by bunnings and have a look at what they have and see if I can make something work.

Ivo........not saying this could happen to you but it could happen to you too.

As a participant in a highly energetic vehicle rollover I can assure you that the last thing you want is an open box of 'stuff' sitting in the 'arc of influence' (the area of the cabin that occupies the drivers and passenger heads & bodies) during the rollover......it tends to get really painful.

Even something as light as a mobile phone can give one a heck of a clout.

The boxes supplied by the Department of the Interior in the link I gave you are expensive.....but they are quite simple too. They are essentially 8mm plywood boxes with vinyl upholstery and are quite easy to build DIY. Boat chandlreys can supply the cabinet hardware to keep the lid locked down too.

My wife was at a conference and they were giving out bags to the attendees. It works perfect, hang the straps of the pasenger armrest to keep it in place. CD's are zipped up in 1 section, side flap holds other bits and pieces. Its easy to move when vacuuming the floor and holds a heap of gear and is easy to move.

Well Ivo, that's a little less engineered than I was expecting!
I've also gone to Autobarn and purchased a large storage hanger that hangs off the rear of the passenger seat, and has multiple large and small pockets. It's great, but the Velcro closures could be modified to be more effective with press studs, which I will do.
I'm still looking for a center console between the two front seats, and something custom built with a small Engle fridge may just be the answer. I'll keep thinking about this. Anything to not have to use the factory cup holder set up. I use to have a mate who was a cabinet maker who did some great draws for the back of the Hilux. Wish I could track him down now when I need him!

    Best wishes mate.

    Ken.
