Okay I know this one has been covered for the T5 .1 2010 upgrade but have not been able to find any info for the earlier T5,s . I am contemplating upgrading the head unit to a later style like the T5.1 [ already have done the modifications to the dash with the upgrade facia etc so that's fine ] My question is I would like to fit a steering wheel with the controls on the wheel for the stereo . Has anyone done this before yes I know it will need coding , but what should I be looking for to do the job . It does seem apparent the Golf mk6 wheel is compatible so that should be easy to source locally not sure what else is needed any suggestions .Thanks .
I am replying to my own post in case someone may help with this one , I was able to get a complete steering column from a Golf mk5 /airbag buttons on wheel etc and clock spring but no joy . it seems that even though the wheel fits that's as far as it goes . The main problem seems to be the clock spring is very different to the Transporter one . The T5 has two plug in points on the front of the indicator wiper housing but as the van is abase model the clock spring only has one matching plug in on its rear . So it does have the wiring from the indicator housing back to the BCM so I need to source a Multi van or similar higher speced one to do the job . The Golf one had single connector but in a totally different position so that idea was squashed quickly .the airbag and button connection has two rows of pins but the transporter has only a single row . I know that the Golf Mk6 fits the T5.1 update but not the earlier T5 like mine . Anyone know of a multi being wrecked or where one may be parked so I can steal it Ha Ha .
