Well the dealer inspected and diagnosed it and the outcome is that VW are fixing it at their cost, new head, valves, cams, belts and the updated timing cover.
So fingers crossed it won't happen again! All I can say is keep an eye on your alternator belt and if you have this problem go see your dealer, VW are aware of the problem
Hope to have it back tomorrow.

Hi all new to this forum and tapatalk so bear with me. I bought a 2011 rok 2 months ago. 80 000ks on the clock. About a month ago the serpentine belt shreded itself and the car stalled. Towed it back to the dealer and left it on there doorstep. I found out after much research that mine had the old timing belt cover, the belt entered the crankshaft and caused the timing belt to jump 9 teeth. All valves are bent. Crazy stuff.

They offered to fix it on powertrain warranty, but not all parts would be covered. After much more research I discovered that under acl (australian consumer law) this is considered to be a "major failure" long story short lol. This means im entitled to a full refund, replacement car, or an engine replacement. The dealer didnt argue this point. We have negotiated a 2nd hand motor to go in with a 12 month warranty . I like this idea as it is peace of mind. And I love the hell out of my rok!

Hope this helps anybody in the same position as it is scary as hell.
