standard battery for T5 5 cyl turbo diesel?
Hi all:
I have recently bought an ex-ambulance T5, now fitted out as a camper (by Frontline at Brookvale, very pleased with layout and quality).
The main battery is a Federal AGM type 9AGM49, only marking is 900CCA. This seems overkill given the spec of 72 AH and 380 CCA & is probably related to the needs of the NSW ambulance service. Manual says used a sealed battery (hence AGM) to match the original one, so the question is, what is the battery fitted to the T5 5 cyl TDi (130 kW) when sold in Oz?
Cheers,

This may not apply to your vehicle
My 2006 multivan 174 TDI has a VARTA brand 1JO915105AH battery with the following numbers listed below it 12V 95Ah 450A DIN then the next line has 760A EN/SAE
There are a lot of electrics in the multivan so the different battery to the Transporter may be the reason.

Thanks Coastie.
I suspect that the oversize battery in the ambulance was related to the amp-hours (not listed on the battery, but relatively large given the cold-cranking current) & needed to drive lights etc. Only important when the engine is off, else all are basically run on the alternator.
Your battery is more in line with the specs listed at http://www.volkswagen-vans.co.uk/tra...specification/.

Well the 150A alternator should keep everything needed in check. The CCA you listed was high. Is it a physically large battery or just made well

large - occupies all the space
