    Smell of fumes in Cabin

    Hi all,

I have noticed the smell of diesel exhaust fumes in the cabin when starting up, stationary at the lights etc over the last few weeks (although I wonder if it was there for longer). I have read many accounts of leaking gaskets, cracked manifolds and so on. Fortunately, mine (2008 model) ended up a very simple fix of re tightening the clamp between the where DPF and the turbo join together. A few minutes with a 5 mm allen key (reaching down from the engine bay) and it was tight again and no more fumes. It is concerning how loose it was and I wonder if the dealer that replaced the DPF under warranty 18 months tightened it up properly in the first place. Moral of the story for me, look for the simple things first!

    Regards,

    Scott

Yeah, those V-band clamps need to be properly engaged and lined up correctly before you tighten them down.
