Where can I get a towbar fitted 4 a multivan ltd in SYD?

    Hi all,

Went in to get a towbar fitted for my T5 edition 25 at VW in chatswood and they wanted to charge $1600!
Where can I get one cheaper in Sydney? Want to tow a boat at some stage and would be great if I can get one that has removable ball?

    Can anyone help?

    cheers

    chris

Is the $1600 for parts and labour?

Do you have parking sensors fitted?
I might be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that from MY12 onwards, all transporters were prepped for towbar fitting....meaning the wiring etc. is already there for it.

Most modern towbars are expensive, due to the complex vehicle wiring systems.

the bar is probably around 1000-1200 with the wiring kit. Add on top labour.

Although 2012 are trailer prepped so take some time off labour.

I asked around, and the MY12 models have the wiring there for towbars.
The earlier models don't, and if you have the parking sensors fitted, then wiring has to be run to behind the dash, and some vcds programming is required.
I have done it once on a 2007 model myself, and will never attempt it again. I would gladly pay to get it done everytime.

I was told that $1600 is the going rate.

Lesson, get the towar included during the negotiation process (if it is a new van). I did that with my MY11 van as I knew I was going to need a towbar. Ended up getting it thrown in for nothing. I worked out the best price I could, then when it came time to shake hands on the deal, I said "include a towbar fitted and we have a deal". The worst that can happen is that they say no.

T5GP (2010-) is around 4 hours work for a Transporter, and around 8 hours work for a Multivan. The installation on a Multivan is a big job, requiring removal of all upper left side interior trims, the left front seat, and all lower dash trims.

T5 (-2010) was much simpler, at around 2-3 hours work.
