    Shades for head units .

I posted over the weekend some solutions to shades for head units for T5 and T5.2 apologies to all as I forgot that the original post was for OE radio stuff my mistake . Someone had asked about glare being a problem and I posted some pics but they were not for that one so here we can see them . Both our T5's old and new have shades to make the screens easier to see in bright light so here goes .Hopefully they will be in order . The first one is with the shade in place on the T5.2 .[IMG][/IMG]

T5.2 fitment along the top .

They look great. I have tried making a smaller one out of plastic but it starts to warp in the summer months from the heat in a locked van.

What did you make them of?
    Have you any DIY instructions?

    Aluminium its really easy to work with you can cut the thin stuff with scissors and bend it to shape {never warps either }

Nice... How did you secure it in place? It looks like you may have a small gap at the top of the unit that you have slotted into.
My head unit is Zanec (worst decission) and there is no real gap around it.

The alloy was thin enough to fit even with the fabric glued on , the older model the shade is held at the sides it is a tight fit but no problem the T5.2 is held along the top edge again its a tight fit but does work . You do have to remove them if changing a CD .The fabric is roof lining fabric out of the Holden Commodores what I do is peel the fabric itself off the backing foam so its ultra thin then glue it on to the shade .What was the mistake buying the Zanec other than the price I have seen for some .

It has been very unreliable. Mine was replaced 3 times in the first 12 months due to Navigation not working.
Now at 2 years i have 2 issues.
    1) when some one calls me, 2 seconds after I answer the music starts and I have to hit the mute button 2 times to get the caller back.
    2) Can not select functions (radio, ipod etc) off the touch screen. I have to do it by pressing the Func button multiple times and watch for the right source to come up at the top of the screen.

My business partners has been way worse with it replace 4-5 times (lost count) and again it is still having problems mostly with the Navigation and the screen going black.
The AM reception is pretty ordinary but this seems par for modern stereos. I keep suggesting he find a FM station he likes but he is of an age that he does not want to change.

For the money, really bad value.
The installer has been helpful but it is just a pain in the arse for all concerned.

I will air my experience here as there is no thread open . When we bought our first T4 in 2000 I fitted a Pioneer head unit as the factory one was just plain useless . Sold the van in 2004 and bought new T5 the factory headunit had a fold out front facia to load a CD one bump on the road whilst loading resulted in the front facia being on the floor with its entrails hanging out ! 3 months old pretty piss poor . So my first foray into Chinese was an Enon one with GPS etc its only problem was it would not eject a CD because at the dash angle it caused some sort of pressure and had to use tweezers to remove it . Some time after I got sick of that I bought my next head unit from a different supplier Erisin now called CarParts Mall Australia . Huge difference every thing worked so it stayed in that van until late last year I decided to "upgrade" to a more modern unit . Now almost at the same time I bought a T5 for work and also fitted one of their units to that one , I will admit here that it was faulty of of the box so it was returned so the next one arrives and it has a problem so back it goes . The third one has been in that van now for years and is still perfect must have been a bad batch . Since then I have fitted several more of different models to friends cars and Toyota vans all good . Erisin/ Carparts Mall seem to have picked up their act and the quality has risen dramatically over the last couple of years . The one I fitted last weekend into mates T5 has new GPS software I was jealous I may steal his GPS software Micro SD card and copy it and upload it to mine !! I know others have had bad luck with Chinese units but as there are so many different ones out there I have staid with the same company and have been happy and at $450 with every thing you can afford to upgrade after a few years if required . The best part is that Car Parts Mall have Aussie based offices so any problems can be sorted out without having to send it back to China !! .

That looks great, as per all your work Sunny!
I just use some black card slotted in over my Double Din Kenwood head unit. Ive had it there for 6 years!
However, your solution with the side shade looks great.
Where can you buy such light aluminium sheet from?
You can buy shades for GPS which I have, but Ive not seen one for the Kenwood.
Thanks mate. Still waiting for you to take a Nth QLD holiday so you can make some pocket money and line my van!
    Best wishes.
    Ken
