Am I missing something with the level of damage for the Brisbane based Multi? Could the cost of repairs even be close to 1/3 replacement price?

It is probably cheaper for them to give their customer a new van and sell the damaged one in auction rather than paying to the crash shop.

Also, why does it have different rego plates front and rear?

Had a look at the Brisbane van yesterday and a chat to the guys at Mannheim.

It is a Jan10 build, base 103TDI Comfortline with only metallic paint (silver) as an option, stolen recovered (hence the plates), though not registered as such. It can simply be roadworthied and registered. It was Gary Cricks' (VW Sunshine Coast) courtesy bus that was stolen. It has done a genuine 1800km.

The damage to the exterior is superficial and consists of a number of scrapes around the van and the broken front bar. Nothing underneath or even behind the front bar is damaged, even the support is unmarked.

However, the interior has been treated by the thieves as you would expect a stolen car to be treated..... It is dirty and there is damage to the radio (RCD310) and bits of the dash. There are cigarette burns to the drivers seat. The rear bench is missing.

The guys at Mannheim expect the reserve to be around $30K. There is probably another $10k in it to replace the missing and broken bits. For somebody looking for an almost new Multivan this is the place to go if you want to save about $10K on new. (with a few obvious risks due to unknowns here)

Would it have any factory warranty if repaired from a "repairable write-off" classification?
    Thanks for the info Sharkie.

It has not been registered as a repairable write-off, it still has normal registration, so the warranty would still be intact as far as mechanical bits go.

It is lot #3509 (incorrectly classified in the catalogue as a Highline) and expected to be on the floor today at about 11am.
