Tiguan from MY11 onward is DSG, easily distinguished by DSG marking on the gear stick, it is very robust box, compared to the 6sp DSG as is in the Golf5 and 6. I'll be watching the long term reliability before I get my next van.
I thought the auto in the Tiguan was still a torque converter type, or have they updated it recently. Any-way, I'm interested to hear any-ones impressions of the DSG box in "off-road" driving conditions, preferably with a T5, but also anything else with a DSG. I've driven a loaner 132Kw DSG for a day (empty van of course, and not 4Motion), and it went very nicely thank you. Didn't notice any hesitancy. I expect my next van will be DSG (4Motion) pending any negativity on "off-road" usage.

The 7sp 550NM DSG as in the Tiguans and now T5.2s have been around for almost 3 years already in the Audi Q5. I have not heard of any issues to date, so its proving to be a lot less troublesome than the 6spd "old" DSGs.
And unfortunately like all the DSG's the lag upon takeoff is still there.

I didn't check every detail on that DSG in the Q5 but in the Q5 the engine is longitudinally mounted and the DSG looks much longer. Í can't imagine that it could be fitted to Tiguan. Maybe part of the DSG is the same.

Absolutely correct, the VW 7spd 550NM DSG is an adaptation of the Audi 7sp 550NM DSG. Hence the reason it took VW almost 2 years to release it after it hit the market in the Q5. I suspect most of the important bits are similar if not identical.
What is important is the fact that in the 11 months since it was released on the Tiguans, we have not heard of any issues at all. Not even a single mechatronics failure has come to light. During those same months there are many posts of 6spd DSG and 7spd 250NM DSG owners in new MKVI Golfs (including Rs) that have had numerous issues ....
Personally I still don't 100% trust the DSG ..... even though I'm now forced to own a car with it in it .... .... and when (if) it fails I'll be making lots of noise about it .... given that our Multi will be absolutely stock mechanically for as long as we own it .... SWMBO has decreed it be so....

Thanks Sharkie & Transporter, that's encouraging about the latest DSG. Are either of you aware of any feedback (or tests/reviews) on it's utility in rugged conditions. It's one area where it's use is still to be proven AFAIK. I'm hopeful, but wonder whether things like rock crawling (or even towing for that matter) would stress the clutches.
In what I've read about the Rockton though, I don't think it was offered, not that it looks like we'll have the choice of a Rockton in Aus. anyway.
