Removing seat back and seat pan wheel knobs - 2011 Transporter

I could not find instructions online so went at it as gently as possible. I needed to get the plastic side skirts off the seat to trim the bottoms so they did not foul on the newly installed seat swivel mounting bolts. I did the passenger seat last night.

Step one. Remove the seat height adjustment lever on the left hand side of the seat. Two Torx head screws, then lift off.

Step two. Pull the plastic side skirt off by gently prying the barbed mounting posts out of their holes in the seat structure. Not that hard and only hands needed.

Step three. In the centre of the hinge joint of the seat back, you will notice the end of a shaft having three tabs/fingers. These fingers have been bent back at right angles to stop the shaft that goes all the way from the seat back angle adjuster knob on the other side, from coming out. Bend the metal tabs/fingers out straight.

Step 4. Other side of the seat now. Fingers in behind the seat back adjuster knob for a firm grip and pull the shaft all the way out of the seat hinge. The plastic knob clips on the the end of the shaft but I did not remove it, because I only wanted the knob out of the way so I could get the side skirt off.

Step 5. Fingers in behind the seat pan adjuster knob for a firm grip and pull the knob off. There are a couple of matching nipples on the inside of the knob tube to meet two small indents on the plastic shaft the knob mounts on. I have already re-installed the knob and the brute force removal method did not do any noticeable damage. Knob is firm on the shaft and does not come off easily.

The side skirt now comes off with gentle finger pressure. Both sides of mine are now trimmed and back on. Seat swivel is brilliant and no more binding.

I'll make an effort to do a couple of photos and add them. Hope someone finds the instructions useful.
