removing head unit from a T5

    Hi guys.

Firstly forgive me if this info is in a thread already. I searched through a few pages and couldn't find anything.
Can anyone point me to a 'how to' thread of removing the headunit from a T5.

The T5 i need to pull the head unit out is the type that has a square headunit. I think it's a older generation dash board not the newer one.

Here is a pic of it.

    thanks all

You need a special tool for it. There are 2 slots on the side where you insert the tool and pull the unit out. Some people cut stripe out of the old credit card instead using the tool. It shouldn't be difficult to find the shape of that tool, just google it.

I don't know if the keys in the video are the same for a T5 but the video shows how to remove the unit.

Edit I think keys are these; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen...d=375969841242

    Thanks Tornado.

I found the same video through a google search.
I ordered a set of keys for 4 bucks on ebay.

It'll be interesting to see how hard it will be to install the Pioneer head unit when it arrives.
I hope it'll fit in without too many hassles.

    Hi Pawnii,

    What have you ordered?

IIRC in some previous searching I think I came across some posts involving Pioneer install in T5's. There's also a myriad of electrical connectors to hook up to the van's canbus so it's really plug and play. Just can't remember if it was here or on the UK sites. One thing that I discovered was the favouring of units with tilt-adjustable display angles as the T5 dash angle can cause reflection washout. Might even have been felt that single din units with motorised displays had greater angle adjustability and thus better viewing. If not for my current mobile phone with excellent gps and benefit of online searching I would have done something myself. I really wish I had a reversing camera though.
