If you are handy with a few tools doing the rotors and discs is around 3 to 4 hours work , you can buy the rotors and pads from GSL Rally sports they support the VW Forum .From memory the whole lot cost around $600
Hi all
I've got a 2006 Multivan 2.5TDI. I've had great service from Vince and Paul at VW Repairers in Artarmon but they've shut up shop and I need a new mechanic. I'd be grateful for any recommendations (I've had the usual bad experiences from dealers - North Shore, Five Dock and Mascot). I live in the inner west, so nearby would be great!
Thanks very much
PS brake pad light's come on and local garage says I need all four pads and rotors, $1000. Does that sound right?

$1,000 sounds about right for decent parts.
Later ones with the big brakes (because bi-turbo), around $1200-$1500 to do.
As far as I know, they all have the same rear brakes across the board.
Should take about an hour tops, to do the fronts. Rears a bit longer, as you have to faff about with winding the pistons back in.

I agree with you Umai the rears can be a bit daunting first time around but I used an old socket which matched the diameter of the piston and then ground down the sides to match the piston locators , then put the caliper back on finger tight on the bolts and just used an extension bar on a ratchet to wind them back . Yes after the first couple of vans it does not take long at all to do .
I can recommend Mark at Safety Service Centre, Currie Rd Forestville - a little further to go. Has serviced my vans for years including the last 5 with my 2008 2.5 T5. Very honest guy.
cheers
