    Rebuilt T5 autos

Just curious, any stories (or facts) on how long rebuilt auto transmissions last in the T5's

I'm led to believe the rebuilds are better than original. A&B Automotive did mine last Xmas, and Geoff wouldn't say what they do different, but he did say he'd expect them to last longer

My 06 128kw had 120,000 ks when I got it May 2010, auto went about 150,000 and I'm up to 185,000 now

Anyone know anyone that's done some decent ks on a rebuild, or do they move them on for fear of another hit to the rear pocket

    I do around 70/30 highway/burbs

Does high percentage of highway, less gear changes, suggest a longer life anyway out of the autos?

Just out of interest what sort of a second mortgage do you have to fork out for the rebuild ? Howard

    $7,600

Yeah it hurt, but I did haggle on the sale of the van until I got it at a price that allowed for this, cos I had a feeling doing 50,000ks a year it wouldn't be long

And I've heard recently other shops are taking up rebuilds and they're getting down closer to $5,000

    Still a stupid amount

Yep a stupid amount for 120,00 kays of driving for the money we pay for our vans this is a disgrace that they fail so quickly , Ill bet the manuals don,t suffer the same fate . My other T5 2.0 lt petrol work van has a manual box and it has done over 150,000 kays and they are not gentle kays either I don,t exactly get on well with manuals or is it the clutch probably the latter . But guess what never misses a beat crunchy gear changes because I don,t seem to coordinate the left foot pushing the pedal and the left hand grabbing the gear lever at the same time . But our auto which just gets put into Drive and only gets touched when parking or reversing gives endless problems , makes you wonder eh .

Has anyone or does anyone know anyone who has swopped the auto for a manual box?

Lots of people used to do this on the T4 over in the UK.

Might have to ask on the T4/T5 forum see if anyone has done it.

Wish I still had my 6 speed manual I had in the UK!!

Ask Golf Loon, I think he done it but I might be wrong and it could be T4. Drop him PM, if you interested.
