Hey all
Excuse my complete lack of knowledge regarding most things mechanical - but thought I should ask to ease my mind
Have a 2010 t5.1 manual transporter
Been trying to look for the engine suffix and in doing so have realised that when the car is turned on - the fan located directly below the bonnet catch isn’t spinning while idling - might be that it only rotates in motion (lack of mech knowledge here) and obviously can’t see that.
Had the car on for over an hour and no lights or anything have come up so might just be me being ignorant haha !
Cheers
Generally speaking the fans only come on when the engine reaches a certain teperature , while idling they may not activate but sometimes after the engine is switched off they can come on suddenly as the engine heats up more so after its off . I rarely hear ours either but mostly after switch off as we live up a hill and the engine works harder for the few hundred metre climb and suddenly they come on . Yes the fan will spin while in motion due to the airflow through the grill , personally I would prefer a temp gauge like we have had in cars [except for VW aircooled engines ] for the last 100 years But hey VW are supposedly smarter than most of us and they expect you to see a tiny light or a piddly "ding "if the temp rises above normal all this while dealing with background noise trying to keep safe while driving etc . I have lost count of how far I have driven with fuel light on as it only dings once and if you miss it well drive at your own risk .
