You can buy the proper faced ply lining at a Caravan repair place Its thinner and lighter than anything you will buy at Bunnings
Hi just upgraded the T2 to a lwb T5 4motion,
Looking to convert into a semi camper, I'm looking at either
R and R bed, or false floor with storage underneath,
Any info + or - on r & r would be appreciated,
Any recommendations on auto elect on nth side Canberra to install dual battery.
Am after suggestions on ply lining the rear upper panels, either where I may get a template or how to make my own.
Any suggestions on camper set up would be appreciated
Cheers Matt

The super duper ply you want is Vohringer. It is not cheap. I went with normal plywood.
Check out the Brickyard web site for camper ideas. They have tried almost everything!
FurgoVW (Spanish site) is also very good for info.
VAG offer CAD templates of their vans. It has been linked here several times and on Brickyard. I also used a share ware application from a French fellow - link is somewhere here... It worked a treat and was great for laying out basic modules in the van.
Easy way to template is to use a clear plastic drop sheet, stick it to the internal wall and trace with marker pen. Transfer to plywood, cut with jigsaw and you are done. I would line with carpet on the outside surface (minimum for comfort), inside as well (I used Ensolite for noise) - remember to allow for thickness of any linings.
I like nutserts and use them in the factory locations for fixing panels - no drilling! Alternatively use the push in type plastic fasteners (disposable) as per VW, Toyota, ... I bought both in bulk (push pins and nutserts) and have a couple hundred left over if you need some...
Rock n roll beds need to be engineered/complied if they are to be used for carrying passengers whilst driving. I do not like them as they are typically fixed to the floor and restrict options - if for instance one day you need the full cargo area to move some furniture. It may be possible to get one with that can detach as easily as the factory set-up but I have not seen one locally.

In our 96 SWB T4 we have a 3-seater that converts to a bed which we find very versatile. With the seat up we can easily stand two bicycles in front of it or when down we can lay two canoes, one on top of the other, diagonally across. In both positions there is lots of usable space underneath and when positioned as a seat you get the added bonus of having a large parcel shelf at the rear.
There is the exact same seat/bed that we have on eBay at the moment but I don’t know if it would fit a T5?

Another addition that we find makes a big difference in versatility is having both front seats swivel. This adds a whole new dimension to how you can use the interior space.
Good luck with your project Matt!
I've been searching for these templates for over a month to no avail.
Could you shed some more light on where I may find them?
Looking at ply lining my van asap.
