    Passive keyless entry Systems

I have recently purchased a 2011 T5 and am very impressed with the way it drives after having driven a T4 for the last 13 years.

Being a tradie I'm constantly going the car to get tools so I'm looking at getting a PKE(passive keyless entry) system installed just so i don't have to fumble around with keys and worry about locking my car.It might sound a bit indulgent but the amount of times I've gone to the car and realized I don't have my keys has happened too often and just wastes a lot time.

I rang a few local auto electricians to get more info and found that most hadn't heard about PKE systems and weren't that interested in installing after market systems. One guy tried to talk me out of it saying it could cause too many unforeseen problems.

After a bit of internet research I found these 2 systems:

Viper Security AU & NZ | Products > Security > Viper PKE 2102V Passive Keyless Entry

    Welcome to Advanced Keys

The Advanced Keys system is around the $600 mark as opposed to $229 for the Viper system.

Just wondering if anyone on the forum has used or purchased a PKE system or can recommend any other systems.

    Cheers.

Pretty cool idea reminds me of a remote starter system I used to install 20 years ago , start the car with doors still locked and cool it down in summer before getting in and driving away . I liked the second one but looks a bit more complicated as you would need to rewire the ignition to leave the steering unlocked . First one made more sense for your needs .

Yes, unforseen indeed. It just brings the old memories back, of the immobilised cars with aftermarket c/locking - immobilisers, stranded at the beach and at the carparks.

Since there is no automatic system, that opens the door for you to get to your tools and you have to use a door handle, I'd just keep my van unlocked on the jobsite. Though, it may depend where you work, but I do that every day.
