Hi Les, if you live in Cooma think about getting a 4Motion van. Good for those dirt roads and snow in winter.

The vans go better than what you would think with the 128kw TDi motor. Not as sporty as the Golf but WAY more practical. You can still loose your license in a van but it may take a second or 2 longer

We shoot Clay Targets at various shooting clubs and was thinking of a bed and a fridge and a safe for the shotguns. By staying at the shooting grounds we wouldn't need the motels. So I would be driving up to 700klm each way so it needs to motor easily at 105klm/hr as shown on the GPS

It will be perfect for the job. Have you taken a 128kw TDi for a test drive? Easy power that will cruise you at 105 no problem at all. I usually sit on 115-118 (gps) up every hill on the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway with no drama at all.

If you are ever in Tuggeranong you are welcome to have a look at my LWB T5 - it is fitted out as a home built "stealth" camper (looks like a normal van with 3 windows, but has a long innerspring single mattress, big house battery and 12v fridge, but no pop-top or cupboards or anything). I store lots of stuff under the bed.

Cruising at 105 Kmh should be well within the capability of any of the engines, and the 128Kw is genuinely quick on the hwy (and without needing the usual "for a van" qualification).

I think the 1.9 TDI is a fair bit more economical than the 2.5 128Kw, but a lot depends on your priorities (and load).

I've driven mine 800-900 Km a day (with the std seats), and I did Adelaide Canberra in one "day" last year, so 7-800 Km in a day is quite feasible. The upright driving position is very comfortable (more than most cars).

I go to lots of dog agility trials, and stay on the grounds where possible (convenient and cheap). That was the main reason I bought a van.

I had a great morning with Greg and his Transporter, a very nice bit of machinery and well fitted out to suit his requirements. All that I have to do is convince swmbo that we need a Transporter. Greg has done his homework on noise control too hardly any sound.

After buying our T4 new in 1995 I thought I'd never be without a Van, but I am now .

We went everywhere with it and it was only the 2.0L 4 cyl, Adel to Sydney in one hit.

Yeah, I'd still love one, but they are big money .

Les, you'll love it! I used to love the view out the windscreen as we set off on holidays, the armrests down, the cruise on, man, that was holidaying!
