Oil level sensor not connected on 2005 Transporter 2.5D Auto

    Hello all,

I have an intermittent flashing red oil lamp on the dash (and warning buzzer) which seems to come on when the engine warms up fully, and the revs drop to about 1800 rpm.

I was about to pull off the sum today to inspect the oil pump when I noticed that there was no loom connected to the oil level sensor! Is this normal?

I have looked all around the engine bay and can't find any unconnected plugs/looms which might have plugged into the sensor.

Can anyone guide me to where I should look for the loom? Hopefully this is the cause of the flashing red lamp (although I'm not sure why it wouldn't flash as soon as I start the engine).

    Cheers

Probably not much help for the T5 but we had the same thing on my sons T4 turned out to be a loose connection on the back of the fuse box .The loom going into the back of the instrument binnacle from the fuse box was the culprit .

Not all of them had the sensor connected. In those instances, it's just there to plug the hole in the sump.

Have you checked the oil level? They hold about 7.4L of oil.

Also try a flush and new oil. The pre-2007 ones took a very specific oil.
