An '09 will have a DPF, so will require 504/507-spec 5W30. May take anywhere between 7 and 8L. Buy 10L, and keep the rest for top-ups. Works out a bit cheaper than 5L + 3x1L.

Should have a 32mm hex on the oil filter cap, but bring the 36mm as well in case the cap's been swapped or is different for whatever reason.

The vw dealer there quoted $450 for the basic 75000 service. I have access to a 3/4 drive socket set, but will I be able to use it? The other thing I'm wondering is if it will have a particulate filter and so need special oil? I've never worked on one of these, the nearest is daughter's '97 petrol golf! So, any and all help appreciated.
You will need 32mm socket, universal loin and long extension or shortened 32mm spanner to undo the oil filter cap. The sump fill is 7.4L exactly.
