There is a very interesting video I saw on YouTube the other night showing how to delete the EGR and some other stuff , what amazed me was the amount of gunk that was blocking the EGR and the connected pipe . I think you'll find that was before the DPF came along.
Removing the DPF doesn't go well the EPA in NSW, I'm guessing and causing your DPF to fail by blocking the EGR is very expensive.

VW should have just not sold cars in California...........problem solved!
