    OBD2 Reader

Over the last 6 months I've had 2 dash warning lights come on intermittently, so I thought I'd buy myself an OBD2 reader to try and see what's going on. Spent nearly $200 on a Foxwell NT301, connected it up this morning but no diagnostic codes were detected. Is it me not using the device correctly or is it VW keeping things secret?

If the warning light has come on intermittently then it may not have stored an error code. If the warning light stays on permanently then it will store an error code which you can then retrieve with a scan tool and it will give you an idea of what the car is not happy about.

The Foxwell device you have purchased should be able to do the job, but for a similar price there are VW specific scanners available which I would recommend.
