    MY11 Caravelle Rattle Thing

So after a number of months...have come across our first warranty fix for the Carravelle.
Got the windscreen replaced this week (not warranty related just stones on a highway) and at the same time they replaced the bushes on the right hand front wheel. While they were fine and functioned as they are suppose to, they were just noisy and squeaked.
Anyway within 30 minutes of driving off... and the motor is now warm the noise returned (more didn't go away).. its a kinda of rattle thing that is bloody annoying.

So anyone had a similiar issue of rattling rotating kinda of noise from the front driver side area? Perhaps I record the sound. It goes back in Monday for another look.

At least I get a new Tiguan to drive around... they are not too bad either.

Stone stuck in vented brake disc?

My mate's GTI suffered this and it drove everyone nuts. Damn stones somehow got into the vented disc, would rattle about but not fall out!!! We had to take the disc off in the end and fish them out with rods...

Does the rattle increase with road speed or engine speed?
Is it dependant on air con or fan settings?

I'd switch everything off and slowly drive with windows shut and then with windows open to check if you can pinpoint the sound.

If it is evident at walking pace, a couple circuits in a car park with an observer/listener outside may yield results.
Make sure to empty all door pockets, glove box, ash tray and dash tray too...

Thanks for these ideas... its a real strange one. It only appears after the engine is hot. It wont do it for the first 20 minutes or so, but once it reaches a certain temperate when running it then starts. Right hand drivers side wheel. When it cooler or wet like it is here now I wont hear it. If i get a chance will try the idea of going somewhere to see how loud it is at slow speed. I spoke the dealer Saturday and once it stats making the sound again (like last time I showed them) we will take the mechanic for a drive so they can hear it in all its glory.

I know this may not be the real answer but we had a noise in my sons vans drivers front end clunking turned out that the CV joint bolts had worked loose at the tranny end , if you have had some work on the front end it may be worth checking . Howard

or a loose brake pad maybe, stones used to get my old landy, are you sure it's the wheel and not coming from engine bay? maybe run the tires at lower pressure for a run and see if the noise goes away

It seems to be suspension related. I know I can make it squeak if you push up and down on the body on the front drivers side strut/susp. Gotta take it back into for another warranty look. The strange thing with it, it only does it when the temperature of the engine bay etc is hot and at slow speed. You don't hear at all on say the highway or at higher speed, only slow and everything is warm. Any way you look at it it bloody annoying.

Well the latest is now.... they are gonna replace the driver side front shock... its spueaks something chronic when you enter driveways etc... hopefully that is the cause of the other issue as well... the rattle that would present itself in the same spot when I took it in for another look.

Just when you thought replacing a front shock was enough.... now we are replacing the sway bar joint thingos (i am very technical) and suspension bushes (again so technical).... it still creaks and makes noise even after today's swap... 6 months old MY11 and well.....

Disappointed somewhat.... another week of waiting for parts and another day with no van for the tribe. At least I did get to have a new Passat today.

I guess I see what the next lot of replacements does... if that doesn't fix I will then be somewhat #!?#ed off I suspect.
