Seems such a shame that all this technology comes with provisos , ie engines must be driven at certain speeds /DSG should not be driven in stop start traffic so many silly things .

We drive all our diesels (2 Tiguans and 08Touareg) in stop start traffic and very short trips too and so far none of them had any issue with the DPF or the DSG. They're driven just in the normal manner by female drivers.
All I can suggest, if anyone has a fault and it comes on the dash, then immediately take it to the workshop not the weeks or months later.

I was only quoting what was reported by VW Australia in relation to DSG problems and the DPF was a mates van which is only used for short runs to and from his home most days around 12kms each way and yes twice the DPF has pooped itself , resulting in one tow and the second limping to the dealer . Don't get me too wrong I do love driving all three of our T5's but I just have issues with technology that at the end of the day can and will either fail or cause problems and as we all know technology does cost lots of money .Last comments on this one I am sure everyone knows where I stand on VW technology.

Dsg problems? Are there dsg problems with the transporters?

My T5 was 7 years old (2.5 DPF) used for short runs & was fine, no DPF issues through its life - My Amarok is getting used for short runs too (occasional highway).

I have seen a Touareg R50 that DPF short life was attributed to short trip city driving.

DSG Problems on transporters? Not really.

No I did not relate the DSG problem to Transporters I said VW but in saying that I still have lingering doubts as I have reported only a month or two after we purchased ours new , twice it let us roll backwards down a steep hill when it failed to engage drive . I selected D1 foot off brake and it just revved its tits off and rolled backwards this was not the hill hold feature it was just plain neutral no drive . This happened twice and was reported to the dealer typically you get the quizzical look from the service people who have no clue as to why .
My friends T5 same model as ours the one with the DPF problem also displays some lumpy changes as well in the DSG I have driven his van a couple of times since he purchased it and have noted the difference from when it was new , his has only 40.000 kays . You all know what happened to our first T5 and as you would understand $11000 is nothing to just laugh off on repairs to a perfectly good van with low kays , just because a simple filter change would have saved its life .Oh last thing I have been monitoring VW Australia's Facebook page and there have been others with Transporter DSG problems just because they are not on this one does not mean they have not happened . Sorry to drag this one on but it still burns me to this day .
