Multivan possible airbag problem and water leak

    Okay, strap in…
My friend has a 2011 multi van.
A few months ago while driving, there was a loud bang inside the cabin, perhaps below the glove box.

Now, in the little map pocket, in front of the passengers knees, there is a bulge about 6 cm’s in diameter in the hard plastic, that she swears was not there before
Could the airbag have detonated without inflating?

Also, there is water coming in under the passenger side carpet. It’s hard to know where this is coming from, it’s just wet in a couple of spots, but dry everywhere else.

    Maybe they’re not related, but….

    Any ideas?

Immediately after I bought my 2007 Multivan, the LH carpet was waterlogged. Turned out that there's a connection in the climate control somewhere above that, which Austral grudgingly fixed. Not the best VW quality control. If something has popped, maybe that connection or the lines have been injured.

If the airbag had been deployed it would probably thrown an error message on the display , plus when they do deploy its a hell of a bang along with lots of white powder . They had an airbag set up at the Brisbane Motor show many years ago and it was in an almost airtight sound proof container and you could still hear it go off .
