So are you saying you want a 2-3-2-3 layout ?
Folks I have an 08 multivan and am wondering why I can't rhrow an extra bench seat in the car. There is enough room for another 3 seat bench.
I understand that they weren't 'certified' to bring in with extra seats but ultimately I don't understand from a mechanical perspective, why I can't throw in an original 3 seater bench seat. Can anyone tell me why as I just don't know why. My multivan has the capability to slide the 3 seat bench to the front in place of the captain seats so I don't understand why I can't put in the extra bench seat without effecting the safety of the respective passengers.
thanks

You can have two, three seaters in the rear of the van.
The problem you will have is getting people in and out of the rear most seats.
I know you can fold the middle seat down but its not that easy.
I think its why VW never sold them this way.
You can not put the three seater the wrong way round because the feet are different sizes to stop you doing this.
Some one on here posted a link to a "buddy" seat that clips between the middle pair of seats.
I will look for the info and get back to you.

potentially I would like 2-2-3-3 or any other combination. We could not order the car in late 07 with a middle 3 seater becasue such a model option was not available in Australia, as this would have given us an 8 seater instead of 7 seater, but since I have had the caar I realise that room wise I could actually ( assuming I could find an appropriate seat from a VW, as distinct from some certified non vw seat) have more seats. I understand that it would create some difficulties getting in and out but certianly there is apparent room. I was just wondering whether or not for eg, that maybe a 3 seater bench behind the front driving/passenger captain seats might interfere with the air bag on the side of the car, anyway I am just trying to find a solution. As it is less than 2 years old and I lease it I cannot affor to upgrade to the newer larger models.
