I have the hayman reece in my golf, and it is true, it does defeat the can bus as far as light out sensing goes.
But it is a pretty 'dumb' unit, in that there are several relays, and they occasionally chatter when the ignition is not on (when the tails go on when the car unlocks).
I can't help thinking that, particularly with the lower burden of LED trailer lights, this could be done with some lightweight power electrics.
But that would require me getting into the shed uninterrupted for a couple of hours, something that ain't gonna happen anytime soon...

Read my post on the other thread about towbars .Snowmotion the wire harness will be all internal behind the side and roof trim , but you can access the plugs by just removing the taillights the rest of the wires lead out of the body right at the bottom rear corners there are two rubber grommets for this . . The Hayman Reece drew all power connections for the lights from the harness behind the rear passengers side trim and at the top corner under the roof trim panel for the Rh indicator .
