The 5W40 engine oil is not suitable for your T5. Also they most likely didn't use the correct oil for your gearbox. The Penrite Gear Oil 70 works well in the 4Motion gear box in our vans.
I recently had a major service on my 07 2.5 4motion. This including 'Front Gearbox and Transfer Case Oil'
Since getting the van back I have felt the gear a little notchy when cold.
I spoke with the Mechanic and they used Castrol Syntrax 75 ? Is this ok or should I change it?
Also, I thought I'd also check what engine oil they used and he told me it was Castrol Magnatec 5w 40.
On the previous service the mechanic told me because of the mileage (170K) it wasn't worth using the more expensive SLX507 but I said I was happy to pay the extra cost. I presumed he would stick with the 507 for this service.
I'm hoping to keep the van for a good few years so don't want to take any chances.
Is the Castrol Magnatec 5w40 ok for a T5 with 170K, serviced at 10K intervals or should I change it?
Also should I change the Gear Oil to 70?
As for the transfer case, not sure what was used
Haldex oil and Filter, mechanic said 'supplied by VW.'
Any advice?
Cheers BR

The Syntrax is ok, providing it's the 75W-90 full synthetic.
Same specification Volkswagen recommends.
As for the engine oil, it should be using 504/507-spec 5W30.

Thanks Guys.
Looks like I'll be looking for a new mechanic or more likely doing the work myself.
I wonder what coolant and brake fluid was used
Cheers BR
Which magnatec 5w-40 did he use? There are several different formulas.

my bad - poor reading skills and I assumed the 5w-40 was the unobtanium oil that some of the vans need.
As an addition to the knowledge base, there is now a Shell Helix Ultra Professional AV-L 0w-30 with 504/507 approval. I think it's aimed at the Scandinavian market.

For a moment I was hoping that this 0W30 Shell oil could be suitable for the R5 5cyl. TDI engine (before the DPF), but this google translate 5 Liter Shell Helix Ultra PROFESSIONAL AV-L 0W-30 VW 504 00 507 00 0W30 Longlife - Levoil
says it can not be used in the place of the VW506.01
